Anja Ormiston
Piano Faculty
Anja Ormiston is a violinist and violist based in Cincinnati. Originally from Scotland, she grew up in a musical family and began studying violin at the age of seven. She holds a Master of Music in Viola Performance and a Bachelor of Music with Honors in Violin Performance from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she studied viola with Jane Atkins and Tom Dunn and violin with Andrea Gajic and Gina McCormack. During her time as a student, she served as principal violist of the RCS Sinfonia and Symphony Orchestras, and was invited to play in masterclasses led by Maxim Rysanov, Nobuko Imai and Paul Coletti among others. She also performed for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with her RCS string quartet.
Anja enjoys a diverse and dynamic career both as a performer and educator. As an educator, Anja brings a wealth of teaching experience in a wide range of settings, including non-profit programs, public schools, and her own private studio. She has held teaching positions with the Ben Carlson-Berne Scholarship Fund at Withrow University High School, Cincinnati Strings, Glasgow City Council, and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Music Centers. Her teaching practice is rooted in inclusivity and adaptability, supporting students of all backgrounds and needs and helping them achieve their goals whether for personal enrichment or professional advancement.
As a performer, Anja has played with ensembles such as the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, the orchestras of Scottish Ballet and Scottish Opera, as well as with celebrated popular artists and groups including The Snuts and the London Symphonic Rock Orchestra.
When she is not performing or teaching, Anja enjoys playing pickleball and volleyball, and exploring the many fantastic restaurants in Cincinnati and the surrounding areas!
